Project Management

 

 

A project is a temporary organisation that is created for the purpose of delivering business products to an agreed Business Case. Project management is necessary as the means by which to safely and effectively manage change.

 

The key to effective project management is ensuring that:

 

  • there is an agreed business case and continued business jusitification throughout the life of the project

  • any new project activity is built on learning from other similar work internal or external to the organisation

  • project staff have clearly defined roles and repsonisbilities

  • the project is broken into defined stages during which activity is managed and each stage is signed off before the next begins

  • any deviation from agreed specifications, budgets and timescales etc. is reported and responded to

  • there is a focus on products not activities - what is produced not how it is produced

  • the degree of complexity and control is commensurate with the size and scale of the project - simplicity where possible - complexity where needed

Research
