Healthwatch
Warwickshire
Throughout January and February 2014 we worked on a new commission from Healthwatch Warwickshire to undertake an options appraisal of the 5 voluntary car schemes operating across the County which provide an important resource for mobility challenged people needing to get to a medical appointment.
ABIC was commissioned to identify means by which the schemes might collaborate better and thereby achieve sustainability in the light of declining public sector fundng.
We spoke to all of the scheme providers as well as key stakeholders and funders in the public sector.
No Wrong Door Baseline Study
During November and December of 2014, ABIC undertook a baseline study for a major new inititative in Birmingham known as No Wrong Door (NWD).
NWD was one a series of inter-related programmes funded to the tune of £10 million by the Government and managed by Birmingham Voluntary Sector Council (BVSC) intended to provide a more seamless and effective blanket of support for people with multiple and complex needs like homelessness, addiction, offending and mental ill-health.
ABICs baseline study sought to establish how well prepared the many voluntary sector partners were, both practically and emotionally, for the collaborative working model at the heart of NWD and whether commissioners would respond to this new way of working in the city.
ABIC interviewed provider organisations, other stakeholders and commissioners and also consulted with groups of service users in order ot produce a report plus programme evaluation criteria.

Moseley Alcohol Partnership Evaluation
Moseley is a suburb of Birmingham which has been blighted for many years by street drinking and associated aggressive begging and anti-social behaviour.
The local community in conjunction with the city council secured Government funding to set up a communiuty alcohol partnership. The MCAP developed a 2-year action plan to tackle the problem, that combined police and council enforcement activity with the engagement of street drinkers and the education of local residents.
ABIC was appointed in the Autumn of 2014 to evaluate the MCAP which involved extensive consultation with all parteis including street drinkers as well as a desgning an distributing a resident and traders survey. Our report was presented at a national conference for all the CAPs that received funding.
